Introducing the All-New Kia Sorento Hybrid and Plug-in Hybrid

The all-new Kia Sorento Hybrid and Plug-in Hybrid aim to further reduce the environmental running costs of the already super-efficient diesel all-new Sorento model.

Able to travel a reasonable distance of 56km without the turbo petrol engine ever firing up, the plug-in hybrid (PHEV) model can complete the vast majority of journeys made by Irish drivers without producing tailpipe emissions.

Both the hybrid (HEV) and PHEV versions retain all of the comfort, space, and practicality of the regular all-new Sorento, including its desirable 7-seat interior layout. Levels of refinement are enhanced thanks to smooth powertrains and seamless transitions between the use of the petrol engine and the electric motors.

Range and Performance

The all-new Kia Sorento Plug-in Hybrid has an electric driving range of up to 56km, which means many of your regular trips, including daily commutes, can be completed without using a single drop of petrol, reducing your environmental impact, and also saving you money.

When the batteries are nearly empty, the vehicle automatically switches into hybrid mode, allowing you to continue your journey and use up the 67-litre fuel tank.

Switching between electric and petrol power or using a combination of both, the HEV model utilises an intelligent parallel hybrid system to perfectly balance optimum efficiency with low emissions.

Out on the road, performance is impressive in both the HEV and PHEV variants. Despite achieving the lowest CO2 emissions figures of any all-new Sorento model, the PHEV is also the most powerful, producing a total of 257bhp.

Charging

Keeping the batteries of the all-new Sorento Plug-in Hybrid topped up should be no trouble at all. You can charge it at home, the workplace (providing your employer allows it) or at public charging points that are located at service stations, shopping centres and supermarkets.

At home, you can simply plug-in the car to a standard 3-pin socket and let the batteries recharge overnight, or you can make full use of the 3.3kW on-board charger and have a dedicated chargepoint installed at your property for faster charging.

Higher grade models have a chargepoint finder built into the infotainment system, so you can find one that's near you and set the navigation system to guide you to it.

The self-charging Sorento Hybrid is able to use regenerative braking to convert kinetic energy and recharge the battery.

Test drive the all-new Kia Sorento PHEV

Taking all of the space, refinement, and comfort of the regular Sorento and combining it with hybrid and plug-in hybrid technology was a masterstroke by Kia.

It reduces running costs for owners, while also providing excellent performance without any compromise in terms of the journeys you can make.

Highlights
Kia Sorento
1
Lane Following Assist (LFA)
Working together with Smart Cruise Control, the LFA system controls acceleration, braking and steering depending on the vehicles in front. This makes driving in traffic jams easier and safer. The system uses camera and radar sensors to maintain a safe distance to the preceding vehicle and monitors road markings to keep your car in the centre of your lane. LFA works between 0 and 180 km/h.
2
Smart Cruise Control (SCC) with Stop & Go
SCC maintains the speed specified by you, the driver, and computes the relative position and speed of the vehicle directly ahead using its front view camera and front radar to ensure a safe distance between the two vehicles. The system controls acceleration and deceleration to make sure your Sorento stops when the other vehicle ahead stops. When the vehicle ahead starts moving again, your Sorento will automatically start moving as well.
3
Intelligent Speed Limit Assist (ISLA)
When you choose to use ISLA, the system uses a camera to read speed limit signs along the road and displays them beside the speedometer and on the navigation screen. You can then decide to set your speed to the road speed limit or override it.
4
Blind-Spot View Monitor (BVM)
Designed to improve visibility for blind spots, BVM uses side cameras so that when you indicate left or indicate right, your instrument cluster shows the view of the road in your blind spot. Indicate left and it will show you the rear view down your left-hand side; indicate right and it shows the right-side view. (Available with K4 trim).
5
Blind-Spot Collision-Avoid Assist (BCA)
BCA uses its front view camera and rear corner radars to monitor the relative position and speed of other vehicles to the side or in your blind-spot zone. If it identifies a potential collision with other vehicles, the system alerts you with visual and audible alarms and may also automatically engage the brakes to keep you in your current lane.
6
Forward Collision Avoidance Assist Junction Turning (FCA)
Evaluating both camera and radar data from your vehicle, the FCA system 7 analyses information about other cars, pedestrians or cyclists crossing the road, to avoid a potential collision. FCA also functions to prevent collisions with vehicles when making a left turn at an intersection. If it estimates a potential collision, a warning signal appears on your instrument cluster and maximum braking power is applied.
7
Multi-Collision Brake Assist (MCBA)
If your airbag is fired in response to a primary collision, information is immediately sent to the electronic stability control system to brake your vehicle. MCBA applies your brakes to prevent a subsequent collision or mitigate its impact.
8
All-Wheel Drive
Ideal for any adventure beyond the city, the all-wheel drive technology automatically distributes torque and traction to each wheel, for more grip and precision, wherever difficult the driving surfaces and conditions. Terrain Mode Select (TMS) also lets you adapt your drive at the touch of a button, with a host of Drive Modes (Eco, Sport, Smart) and Terrain Modes (Snow, Mud, Sand) to suit your specific journey.
