New €8,500 Government EV Scrappage Scheme Now Available

The Irish Government has announced a new Electric Vehicle (EV) Scrappage Scheme designed to help motorists make the switch from older petrol and diesel vehicles to a brand-new electric car.

Under the scheme, eligible customers can receive up to €8,500 in Government support when purchasing a new battery electric vehicle (EV). The incentive combines:

• €5,000 Scrappage Grant for eligible vehicles being permanently removed from the road
• €3,500 SEAI Electric Vehicle Grant on qualifying new electric cars

This means drivers could save up to €8,500 when changing from an older petrol or diesel vehicle to a new electric model.

Who Qualifies?

To qualify for the scheme, customers must:

• Own a petrol or diesel vehicle that is 13 years old or older (2013 registration or earlier)
• Scrap the vehicle through the approved scheme
• Purchase a new battery electric vehicle (BEV)
• Meet the eligibility requirements set out by the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI)

The scheme applies to new fully electric vehicles only. Hybrid and used electric vehicles are not eligible.
