Introducing the Jaguar XF
Jaguar seemingly reinvented themselves with the XF when the first generation was introduced in 2007. This was a model that was unmistakably Jaguar, but simultaneously brought a new identity that eclipsed its older siblings.
Having entered its latest generation, the British marquee have updated the interior with luxurious materials and advanced technology to provide an elegant retreat for enjoying the exceptional drive the New XF offers.
That is not the only thing to have changed, because Jaguar have introduced new exterior features to create a more assertive aesthetic. Topping it all off is the latest range of petrol and diesel, with Mild Hybrid Electric Vehicle (MHEV) technology, engines.
New front bumper, grille, and rear bumper feature as part of the XF's assertive exterior. Premium LED headlights are fitted as standard across the range and are available with Auto High Beam Assist on SE and HSE models. For a more performance-focused look, the new XF is also available in the R-Dynamic specifications.
Jaguar XF is available in two different body styles, which comprise a traditional saloon and a Sportbrake (Jaguar's name for an estate). Naturally, the estate gets a larger boot space of 563 litres with the rear seats up and a staggering 1,342 litres with the seats folded down. The regular saloon gets between 344 and 672 litres.
Dotted around the cabin are various storage compartments and cup holders, while the door bins are big enough to swallow a large bottle of water.
Featuring Jaguar's next generation Electronic Vehicle Architecture, EVA 2.0, the XF is well equipped with modern technologies. The latest Pivi Pro infotainment system takes centre stage in the interior of the XF and boasts a vibrant 11.4-inch curved glass HD touchscreen.
Smartphone users will benefit from Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ as standard, allowing two phones to be connected simultaneously via Bluetooth. A wireless charger also features in the New XF. Connectivity is enhanced even further thanks to Amazon Alexa voice-control.
The New XF is packed with the latest generation of driver assistance technology. Clear Exit Monitor alerts occupants to the presence of an approaching car or cyclist when exiting the vehicle, while the optional Adaptive Cruise Control automatically maintains a set distance from the vehicle in front. A 3D Surround Camera is fitted as standard to all XF models, which includes a real-time viewing optional when manoeuvring the vehicle.
Expect superior refinement in the cabin of the XF thanks to Active Road Noise Cancellation technology, which constantly monitors vibrations from the road surface and calculates the opposite phase sound wave needed to remove the noise heard by occupants.
Choose between two versions of the 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine or select the new diesel engine, which features MHEV technology. The new diesel engine delivers lower running costs and represents a 13 percent improvement in emissions and 14 percent in efficiency for the XF Saloon RWD compared to the previous 178bhp diesel engine, which was used in the previous XF models, in addition to a power increase of 24bhp.
The intelligent MHEV system uses a Belt Integrated Starter Generator (BiSG) to harvest energy normally lost when decelerating. It stores this energy in a 48V lithium-ion battery until it is redeployed to support the engine with acceleration.
With 247 or 296 bhp, the 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol provides zesty acceleration, with the most potent unit completing the 0 to 100km/h sprint in just 5.8 seconds, in the XF Saloon.
All engines are accompanied by Jaguar's eight-speed automatic gearbox. Driver engagement can be enhanced thanks to the steering wheel shift paddles allowing the driver to take control of the gears.
The latest generation Jaguar XF continues to impress thanks to the improvements that have been made. The timeless design still sets the XF apart from the competition, while the introduction of the latest driver aids and interior technologies merely enhance the already exceptional driving experience. In short, the XF is among the best in its class.
